Watering times

The required amount of water to apply to your lawn and gardens is 10mm. This is achieved by adjusting your run time per station depending on the sprinkler type. This causes a lot of dry patching and under watering in most cases with modern sprinklers being more water efficient but under run. A Standard popup sprayer for instance will run for approximately 10 minutes to apply 10mm, A Gear driven sprinkler or Precision nozzle will run for 20 minutes for 10mm, and a rotary sprayer can run for up to 45 minutes for it to apply 10mm. Please check out our watering information page for help when programming your station run times.

Why do you require a licensed plumber to do a retic cut in?

When installing a new reticulation system, water flow is a major factor involved in the design.

In order to guarantee you are receiving maximum water flow from your house we require a licensed plumber to install a cut in valve right near your water metre.

This includes:

  • 1x 20mm copper tee cut in below the water metre
  • 1x non-return valve which is a check valve installed to prevent any reticulation water re-entering your house scheme water pipes
  • 1x 20mm tested ball valve to isolate your retic water if required without the need to cut the water off to the rest of your house

What Sprinklers To Use In My Garden

How do I know what sprinklers I should use in my garden?

With modern technology and a little help you can now choose the right sprinklers for your garden.

Gone are the days where one big bertha sits in the middle of you garden and waters your fence and house more than the lawn. Using an MP Rotator or the new Rainbird Rotary nozzle you can now space your sprinklers anywhere from 2m up to 6m apart with an easy adjustment using a small screw driver for the MPs and just your fingers with the Rainbird Rotary to change the distance thrown. These nozzles are very water efficient being a jet stream rather than a sprayer. They also apply the water a lot more evenly and are less wind affected.

What do I do if my sprinklers are too low?

The most cost efficient and quick way to slightly raise a standard popup sprinkler is with a 15mm M&F adapter. You can also by a 15mm cut-off riser which can be cut to any height for the more OCD people. If the sprinkler is being replaced then first I would check the size of the popup itself. Usually if the system was installed by the home owner it will be a 2 inch hardware sprinkler which can simply be replaced with a 3 or 4 inch sprinkler. This will solve your height problem for ever giving you a larger popup itself and a larger rise while running.

When is the best time to put my retic on?

There is no specific time that is exactly when you should water however any time between 9:00am and 6:00pm in Perth would be a definite waste of time, money and water. Our Ideal time is between 5:00-6:00am or 7:00-8:00pm when it’s a little cooler. This then depends on each person and whether they prefer morning or evening.

How to stop my dog’s urine killing my grass?

How to stop my dog’s urine killing my grass?

This is a very common problem we come across at West coast landscaping and only recently we have discovered the reason. Dogs are carnivores and eat a lot of meat and we as humans will usually feed our dogs meet every day. When they intake too much protein they need to dispose of the waste nitrogen which is what burns the grass. Without having to go out and hose the lawn every time you see them go to toilet you can simply visit any reportable pet store and ask for some ‘dog rocks’ which take the acidity from the urine and hence prevent any smelling and staining or burning of grass. Problem solved!!!
